5 Weeks Old...

She just fit so nicely inside my giant pregnancy pillow... I don't know how impressed she was but Derek and I thought she was super cute :)

Length: Okay, let's just come to an understanding that I'll update this after her doctor appointments when a professional measures her... if I do it, I'll just end up telling lies about how long she is :)
Weight: Another area where I seem to seriously lack accuracy... the only way we can weigh this pipsqueak is to get on the scale with her, then get on the scale alone, and do the math. I can't promise it's incredibly accurate but it's the best we can do. That being said, she's somewhere in the ballpark of 8.5 pounds.
Feeding Schedule: Things have stayed pretty much the same on this front - she's eating about ever three to four hours and taking in somewhere around 3 1/2 ounces at each feeding. We started the Prevacid and it seems to be helping with the pain from the reflux although it's hard to know when to give it because she's supposed to take it 30 minutes before she eats... When Addison gets hungry - she wants food NOW not in a half an hour! We've stayed away from the rice cereal and stuck with just breast milk. I'm breast feeding at least once a day and it's going pretty well although I don't think she eats as much when she nurses as she does from the bottle but it's wonderful bonding time so I'm not complaining. One thing I haven't figured out is what is making this poor child 'constipated'. I know that technically breastfed babies can't get stopped up but she hasn't pooped in at least two days and you can tell that she's uncomfortable and has to go. She scrunches up in a little ball and screams and then kicks her legs... I feel awful but I don't know what to do for her and the doctor says it's nothing to worry about. :/ I don't think I agree.
Sleeping Schedule: We are still getting to be around 10pm, waking up between 2am and 4am to feed and then sleeping until about 7am. It's much more manageable then the 90 minute intervals of just a few weeks ago so I'm not complaining. That being said - I can't wait to sleep for eight hours straight!
Milestones: We left her with Grandma and Grandpa while Derek and I went on our first date in months. It's hard being away from her but it was so nice to go out and do something fun!
Best Moment This Week: Realizing that I've finally started to come out of the funk that I've been in for the last couple of weeks. For a while there I couldn't see the light at the end of this recovery tunnel but now I'm starting to feel like myself again, some of my clothes are starting to fit, the scale is only 6 pounds away from where I started in January, and I feel like I can manage all the different jobs I have to do during the day. I've started making appointments and plans that involve leaving the house and I feel confident enough that I can do it and run around town with the baby in tow. I also got to hang out with a good friend and have lunch at a real restaurant which was a nice change from the PB & J that I've been living on lately.
Parenting Wisdom: The first four weeks are by far the hardest... hang in there and tough it out - things do get better.

  1. It is so nice to hear that i am not the only one that thinks when a baby doesn't poop a few times a day that something is wrong....But the doctor told me that until they eat solid food they can go 3-4 days without going & that is NORMAL. WHATEVER!!

Hang in there & she is so beautiful!!
